Council Information Sessions

As part of CAUT’s program of events for the upcoming CAUT Council meeting, we have arranged virtual information sessions as well as an orientation session for new Council delegates and alternates. All three sessions will be held by videoconference (Eastern Time).

  1. Orientation for New Delegates – 12:30 to 1:15 pm
    Chair:
Ted Montgomery, Speaker of Council // Speaker: Cindy Oliver, Deputy Speaker of Council

Review how to vote, speak to a resolution, make a motion and more. Members of CAUT’s Elections and Resolutions Committee will review the Council agenda and procedures and answer questions about CAUT Council.

Participants are encouraged to participate in English or French. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

Any questions regarding this session should be directed to Margaret McGovern-Potié, Executive Assistant to the Executive Director, at mcgovern@caut.ca.

  2. Education for All Campaign  – 1:30 to 2:30 pm
    Facilitators:
Brenda Austin-Smith, CAUT President and Pam Foster, Director, Policy & Communications

COVID-19 has amplified long-standing issues with post-secondary education: lack of funding for basic research and core operating costs, precarious work, unreasonable workload and so on. CAUT has joined forces with other organizations representing post-secondary students and workers to push governments to invest in universities and colleges and commit to addressing the issues. Join us in a discussion on organizing and mobilizing members to push for system change.

This event is a facilitated discussion. Participants are encouraged to participate in English or French. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

Any questions regarding this session should be directed to Christina Muehlberger, Membership Engagement, Organizing & Outreach Officer, at Muehlberger@caut.ca.

  3. Organizing Against Provincial Austerity – 3:00 to 4:00 pm
Academic staff associations are organizing against provincial governments, building coalitions and mobilizing members. Hear about their strategies and tactics to work for change.
    Presenters:
    • Aaron Chubb, University of Lethbridge Faculty Association
    • Josh Lepawsky, Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty Association
    • Robin Whitaker, Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty Association
    • Michael Shaw, University of Manitoba Faculty Association

This event will take place in English with simultaneous interpretation into French.
